On March 12, 2005, THUNDER'S MOUTH PRESS came out with our first-ever collection of stories from the workshop! The book is on bookstore shelves NOW! Doug has rounded up stories from twenty of our very BEST STORYTELLERS. These include many of your favorites from the stage, as well as a crop of NEW TRUE STORIES from our queer lives!
Official bookstore readings! We made two signing and "reading" appearances (really mini-performances) at two bookstores in June:
GIOVANNI'S ROOM Bookstore in Philadelphia on June 18 ~
and, kicking off New York's 2005 Gay Pride weekend,BARNES & NOBLE Chelsea in New York on June 22
...On May 10, Doug was a guest on OUT LOUD, a Public Television gay & lesbian talk show on Channel 35 in Philadelphia
HERE'S WHAT THEY'RE SAYING:
These stories are as honest as they are queer. Ranging the gamut from tragic to comic, they encapsulate what is often missing in descriptions of gay men: their humanity, their families, and their lovers. These men tell the stories of how they have managed to find themselves—and happiness—at a time when the public seems more interested in what they do than in who they are. Queer Stories for Boys reminds us of the people behind the political diatribes, and does so with elegance, wit, sadness, and joy. —Helen Boyd, author of My Husband Betty
Free from fiction...no embellishments, no additives....These recollections remain naked and therefore, completely fearless. When [these authors] pry themselves apart, communicating with such candor, the result can be astounding....Encourages and inspires... —Lamda Book Report
For anyone who doubts we are a tribe of many voices, there is this generous, amiable anthology of first-person storytelling.... Every queer boy has a story to tell, about growing up different, alone, special, and Queer Stories for Boys tells those boys' stories well. —Richard Labonte, Books to Watch Out For www.btwof.com
This wonderful anthology culls 52 stories from the LGBT Center's regular storytelling workshop for gay men. But if you want salacious brunch gossip look elsewhere—these are mostly about being an outsider, from miserable Christmas pick-ups to one hilarious family day at the beach. I would say they're Sedaris-like, but these writers deserve to be acclaimed based on their own merits. —Mark Peikert, HX Magazine
...lively, engaging, funny and a little strange. —Calamus Bookstore Newsletter
